Loukia Richards: A Sampler of Greek Embroidery Motifs
'OXI (No) - A Sampler of Greek Embroidery Motifs'.
Loukia Richards, 2010.
Cotton, wool, acrylic and silk threads on old cotton Greek flag.
Work in progress.
"(Some historians claim that Greek history is but a long row of 'Nos' to enemies. Greek junk refers to the S&P description of Greek state bonds as 'junk' last week)
The united cosmos is present in the beautiful compositions of Greek embroidery.
Animals, mythological monsters, humans, plants are all mixed together, are part of a world where all have their place, all belong together.
Motifs sketched and embroidered by me after the Greek Embroidery Collection at The Textile Museum, Washington DC (2008).
I am thankful to the Fulbright Foundation for funding this study, the results of which dominate my present work."
Loukia Richards: Stitchers Meeting in Greek countryside
My friend and fellow jeweller Loukia Richards organised a stitchers meeting in a castle tower built in 1808 in the village of Peloponnese, in Greece. Wish I could have gone!
Have added some images just to make all of us in the UK and other colder climates jealous! Loukia adds updates about her work and workshops on her facebook page here I hope there will be more workshops in the future...

Ela Bauer: I Care A Lot
I Care A Lot - a portable discussion on the Middle East present a collection of Jewelry artworks in a group exhibition dealing with a variety of complicated themes associated with the Middle East.
Ela Bauer has been selected to show her work in the exhibition. Soon there will be an online exhibition showcasing the work of makers involved. A difficult subject to respond to, am looking forward to seeing how people have interpreted the theme.
